CHEMISTRY BETWEEN LUCK AND WAYNE ONLY TO GROW IN YEAR TWO

The praise Andrew Luck offered Reggie Wayne is what every wide receiver loves to hear from his quarterback.

When the lights are the brightest, No. 87 always seems to shine.

“Big moments, he controls them,” Luck said of Wayne. “He’s going to make the play. He’s going to get the first down, the touchdown, whatever you need.”

That comment Luck made late in the regular season is further proof of the importance the 34-year old Wayne provided an inexperienced offense this season.

Entering his 13th NFL season, Wayne said on more than one occasion this season that the youth surrounding him on the offense rejuvenated him and there’s a reason why Chuck Pagano made the former Miami Hurricane his the first phone call upon being named Colts head coach.

“He’s so passionate,” Pagano said on his season ending radio show of Wayne. “He loves this game and loves this team and loves this organization. There’s nothing that he would not do to make sure that this team is successful.”

“He’ll go and he’ll take some much deserved and much needed time off, get himself feeling a little bit better, rest up and then he’ll be back working his craft.”

Wayne’s 106 receptions and 1,355 receiving yards in 2012 ranks as the second highest output of his career.

During the offseason, Wayne made up for lost time with Luck by inviting him down to ‘The U’ for some extra work with his new quarterback.

Luck and the Colts rookie class amassed an NFL record 3,108 yards this season with the quarterback leading a record seven game winning drives.

With nearly every skill position player on offense under contract heading into next season, head coach Chuck Pagano has high aspirations for the unit.

It was a whirlwind first season in the NFL for Luck and his head coach is anxious to see the jump made in year two.

“You feel like (Luck) is almost going into his fourth or fifth year with the way he played. He lived up to all the hype, all the billing and then some. He exceeded all our expectations,” Pagano said.

“He’d be the first one to sit down with you and tell you there’s so many areas that he can get better at. That’s just the type of player that he is, the type of athlete and type of competitor that Andrew is. We’ve got a great one in Andrew and we’ve got a great one for a long, long time.”
