Natalie’s Notes #2- Audition Attire

Hey, it’s Natalie and I’m back again for another round of my notes!

We’ve received a few questions about the kinds of tops to wear for auditions, so I thought I would go ahead and address the type of outfit to wear. As you can see on the website, every girl must show their stomach and legs throughout auditions. That being said, this is where girls really like to get creative and express their personality! Here are some tips on picking the BEST audition outfit for you.
Some girls will wear swimsuit tops, sports bras or dance tops. One main question to ask yourself when choosing a top is, “Can I dance in this?” Dancing is the main part of our auditions. We will learn approximately 4 routines, so you want to be able to move comfortably without any kind of wardrobe malfunction. Also ask, “Is this top flattering on me?” Everyone’s body is different, so every top isn’t going to look the same on every girl. Just because something looks great on a hanger or in a picture doesn’t necessarily mean it will look great on you. Choose something that will showcase your body the best! And most importantly, ask yourself, “Am I comfortable in this top?” The auditions alone are nerve racking enough, you don’t want to add being self conscious about your top into the mix. So, going off of what I said before, it may look great but if you are uncomfortable in it for any reason, then it’s not the top for you.
Now for your bottoms, most girls will wear shorts, though some choose to wear skirts. Either one works great. When choosing your shorts here are a few things to keep in mind. The fit is a big thing, you want to make sure they are form fitting so they show off your figure. That being said, you don’t want them to be too tight or too small, so make sure all private parts are completely covered ladies. Also make sure the length is proportionate to your body. For example, if you have shorter legs wearing long biker shorts is probably not the best choice for you.
Another important aspect of your audition outfit is tights! Yes, it is highly recommended for every girl to wear tights throughout auditions. Tights just give your legs a smoother and more polished look and what girl doesn’t want that? When choosing tights, make sure they match your skin tone! Wearing tights that are three shades too light or dark for you never looks good. It’s just like finding the right foundation. Tights can be found almost anywhere, ranging from your nearest Walmart to Hooters restaurants. But again, size and color are the most important things to remember when choosing them.
Now, once you’ve chosen your outfit, be sure to try it on before the first day of auditions. This will give you the chance to see what kind of bra you need to wear, make sure everything fits and that you won’t have any malfunctions on audition day. So whether it be sequins or rhinestones, adding a little to your outfit will only make it and you more noticeable! I hope this makes you aspiring cheerleaders feel more prepared for auditions.
