The Colts have agreed to terms with wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey

The Indianapolis Colts today agreed to terms with free agent wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey.

“We feel great about acquiring a talented player in Darrius Heyward-Bey,” said General Manager Ryan Grigson. “He’s big, strong and shows toughness in traffic and after the catch. He’s got elite finishing speed that’s as good as there is in the NFL. With this staff, this team and overall culture we’re building here in Indy, we felt strongly that he was the right player and person at the wide receiver position for us moving forward.”

Heyward-Bey, 6-2, 216 pounds, has recorded 140 receptions for 2,071 yards and 11 touchdowns since being selected by the Oakland Raiders with the seventh overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Over the last four seasons, he led the Raiders in receptions and receiving yards, while finishing second in touchdowns behind Denarius Moore (12).

In 2012, Heyward-Bey started 14 games and compiled 41 receptions for 606 yards and a career-high five touchdowns. In 2011, he had one of his most productive seasons, totaling career bests in receptions (64) and receiving yards (975), to go along with four touchdowns. He also registered three 100-yard receiving performances for the year, including a career-high 155-yard game against Detroit (12/18/11).

In 2010, Heyward-Bey reeled in 26 receptions for 366 yards and a touchdown. His top performance of the season came against Seattle in Week 8, when he notched his first career 100-yard receiving game (105 yards) and scored on a career-long 69-yard reception.

Great pick up! He was a beast at the Raiders, completely underrated.

Darius Heyward Bey from the Raiders. 7th overall draft pick in 2009 from the University of Maryland. He had a breakout season for the Raiders in 2011. And you guys thought Pierre Garcon was fast? Darrius Heyward Bey is three times as fast. Great job Colts.

Hayward-Bey is a good receiver when healthy. He’s big and fast; those are two qualities that is always good. I like him playing along side Wayne. Sometimes, a change of team and scenery is good.

Please tell me this is a April fool joke! I’m a huge Colts fan but I’m not a fan of this signing.

I think he is a upgrade over Avery since he is faster and drops LESS catches. Still wish we signed Brandon Lloyd…

Reggie will tutor him on what is required to be an elite receiver. Does he have the determination? Is he still hungry?

Why? Its a low risk deal for a player who compliment reggie and TY. Unquestionably an upgrade over Avery

DHB has never had a great….or even good QB throwing to him. Along with all the other weapons on the Colts offense, he will, in my opinion record career bests in every category this coming season. WELCOME DARIUS!!!!!!

I believe that this is a great pick-up! Now the Colts will have two recievers that can get behind the defense!

What a awful pickup!!! What good is speed if you can’t catch the ball. I hate that the Colts did this – please tell me this is an April fools joke.

he may run a quick 40 but if you watch his highlights, his real trait is yards after catch, which should be great for our new west coast offense. Hilton is our main deep threat. Heyward-Bey is simply a low risk 1 year signing which in all likelihood will be a major upgrade over the departed Donnie Avery

Being a Colts fan living in the Bay Area, I am forced to watch Raiders games more than I would like. But I like this guy. The Raiders are a perennial disaster and Heyward-Bey has played in an unstable offense year after year. I trust the colts personnel to evaluate personalities and this guy can play and play hard. I’m excited, this guy’s got #1 receiver potential still.

I like Bey’s speed and size but his hands are 4th string at best. Hopefully we can coach him up and Reggie can teach him what he needs to know.

Darrius Heyward-Bey is a good receiver its just hard to judge him when he has never had a QB that could get the ball to him he was open alot last season they just couldn’t throw the ball far enough for him to catch.

In 2012 Heyward-Bey at 6.25% had a lower dropped ball per target percentage than Eric Decker, Dez Bryant, Demaryius Thomas and Rob Gronkowski. Those aren’t Reggie Wayne numbers (4.62%) but hey.
