Analysis: Through the first two months of the 2012 season, the Raiders were in the thick of the AFC West at 3-4. However, the final two months did not go as planned and Oakland dropped eight of their final nine contests and carry the third pick with them into next week’s NFL Draft.
Patience has been the word of choice for Raiders fans. General manager Reggie McKenzie has made some serious news the last two weeks. Offensively, the quarterback position seems to be Matt Flynn’s after the Raiders acquired the former Packers and Seahawks signal caller. Flynn should take over for last year’s starter Carson Palmer, who was traded to the Arizona Cardinals earlier this month.
The linebacker position will see a large overhaul in 2013 with Burnett and Roach leading the additions. Up front, the Raiders lost some key veterans but did add Sims and a few mock drafts have them choosing Florida’s Sharrif Floyd with the No. 3 overall pick. The secondary lost Huff but the cornerback spot upgraded with Jenkins and Porter joining Oakland the last two weeks. The Raiders also will be looking for a new punter after seven-time Pro Bowler Shane Lechler moved on to Houston.
