The Indianapolis Colts today signed six players to Reserve/Future contracts including: guard Zach Allen, center Thomas Austin, linebacker Alan Baxter, cornerback Marcus Burley, quarterback Chandler Harnish and tight end Martell Webb.
Allen, 6-3, 328 pounds, was signed to the Colts practice squad on December 16, 2013. He was originally signed to the Seattle Seahawks practice squad on October 22 and was released on November 18. In four seasons at North Carolina State (2009-2012), Allen competed in 42 career games, making 31 starts. As a junior in 2011, he blocked for quarterback Mike Glennon who threw for 3,054 yards and 31 touchdowns. Allen also helped pave the way for a rushing attack that averaged 104.8 yards per game.
Austin, 6-4, 310 pounds, played in one game this season at Kansas City (12/22). For his career, he has competed in eight games, making one start. Austin was signed by the Colts as a free agent on August 1, 2013 before being signed to the practice squad on September 1.
Baxter, 6-0, 238 pounds, was signed to the Colts practice squad on December 24, 2013. He was originally signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent on April 27. Baxter was then signed to the Steelers practice squad on September 1 and released on October 11. He played in 52 career games (24 starts) at Northern Illinois and finished with 152 tackles, 30.5 tackles for loss and 16.0 sacks. As a senior in 2012, Baxter was an All-Mid-American Conference first-team selection after leading the team with 9.5 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss.
Burley, 5-10, 185 pounds, was signed to the Colts practice squad on January 7, 2014. He was originally signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent on April 28, 2013 and spent time on the practice squads of the Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles and St. Louis Rams this year. At Delaware, Burley appeared in 48 career games (33 starts) and totaled 169 tackles (119 solo), 18 passes defensed, four interceptions, three tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. As a senior in 2012, he started all 11 games and recorded 27 tackles (19 solo), five passes defensed and one fumble recovery.
Harnish, 6-2, 222 pounds, was originally selected by the Colts in the seventh round (253rd overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft. He was inactive for the first five games of the regular season in 2012 before being signed to the practice squad on October 18, 2012. Collegiately, Harnish started 45-of-47 games in four seasons at Northern Illinois, completing 687-of-1,110 passes for 8,944 yards, 68 touchdowns and 26 interceptions.
Webb, 6-3, 278 pounds, was signed to the Colts practice squad on November 28, 2013. He was originally signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent on July 26, 2011 and was released on August 29. Webb then spent time with the New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans and the Detroit Lions. He was first signed to the Colts practice squad on November 13, 2012 and was released on December 4.
