The Indianapolis Colts today signed undrafted free agent wide receiver L.T. Smith and waived wide receiver Tyler Rutenbeck.
Smith, 6-0, 202 pounds, played in 48 games (34 starts) at Akron and recorded 117 receptions for 1,426 yards and nine touchdowns. He started his collegiate career at safety and recorded 41 tackles (23 solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, one pass defensed and one fumble recovery.
He started all 12 games at wide receiver in 2014 and finished second on the team in receiving with 45 receptions for 489 yards and three touchdowns. Smith was also the top kick returner and tallied 19 returns for 427 yards (21.5 avg.). In 2013, he saw action in all 12 games (six starts) and finished with 24 catches for 428 yards and three touchdowns. As a sophomore, Smith made the transition from safety to wide receiver and started all 12 games on offense. He registered 48 receptions for 509 yards and three touchdowns. In 2011, Smith totaled 36 tackles (18 solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, one pass defensed and one fumble recovery after earning a redshirt as a true freshman in 2010.
Rutenbeck, 6-2, 190 pounds, originally signed with the Colts as a free agent on June 1, 2015. He played collegiately at Dubuque and finished with 163 receptions for 2,715 yards and 42 touchdowns.
