The Indianapolis Colts today elevated inside linebacker Amarlo Herrera to the 53-man roster from the practice squad and released return specialist Marcus Thigpen.
Herrera, 6-1, 249 pounds, was signed to the Colts practice squad on September 8, 2015. He was selected by the Colts in the sixth round (207th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft. He started 43-of-54 games at Georgia and totaled 334 tackles (147 solo), 21.0 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 11 passes defensed and three interceptions.
Thigpen, 5-9, 200 pounds, was signed by the Colts as a free agent on October 12. He played the first four weeks of the 2015 season with the Buffalo Bills before being released on October 7. Thigpen has played in 45 career games and totaled 85 punt returns for 847 yards (10.0 avg.) and two touchdowns and 92 kickoff returns for 2,224 yards (24.2 avg.) and one touchdown. He has caught nine passes for 112 yards and one touchdown and has seven rushes for 26 yards.
