The Indianapolis Colts today signed offensive tackle John Wetzel to the practice squad.
Wetzel, 6-7, 328 pounds, was with the Dallas Cowboys for the last three seasons. He spent the first nine weeks of the 2015 season on the Cowboys practice squad before being released on November 12. In 2014, Wetzel spent the entire season on the Cowboys practice squad. He originally signed with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2013. Wetzel participated in training camp with the Raiders before being waived on August 24, 2013. He was signed to the Cowboys practice squad on November 13, 2013 and spent the final seven weeks of the season with the team.
Collegiately, Wetzel started 24-of-32 games at Boston College. In 2012, he started all 12 games at right tackle for the Eagles and helped the offense average 259.3 passing yards per game. Wetzel started all 12 games at left tackle as a junior and helped the offense rush for more than 100 yards in six games. In 2010, he saw action in two games as a sophomore. He played in six games as a freshman in 2009.
