INDIANAPOLIS COLTS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

The Indianapolis Colts today signed quarterback Stephen Morris to the 53-man roster off of the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad and placed cornerback D’Joun Smith on the Injured Reserve list. 

Morris, 6-2, 218 pounds, has spent most of the season on the Eagles practice squad. He was claimed by Philadelphia off waivers on September 6, 2015. Morris was waived by Philadelphia on September 21 and signed to the practice squad two days later. He spent the entire 2015 offseason and training camp with the Jacksonville Jaguars before being waived on September 4. Morris originally signed with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2014. He spent most of his rookie season on the Jaguars practice squad before being elevated to the 53-man roster for the last two weeks of the season.

 

Collegiately, Morris was a four-year letterman at Miami (FL) and started the final 25 games of his career. He played in 36 games (30 starts) and completed 551-of-955 passes for 7,896 yards with 49 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. As a senior in 2013, Morris started all 13 games and became only the second quarterback in school history to post multiple 3,000-yard seasons as he completed 198-of-344 passes for 3,028 yards with 21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He was named Third Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association and league’s coaches. In 2012, Morris started all 12 games and threw for 3,345 yards, 21 touchdowns and only seven interceptions as he completed 245-of-421 passing attempts. His 3,415 yards of total offense and 421 passing attempts set Hurricane single-season records. Morris saw action in five games (one start) as a sophomore and completed 26-of-37 passes for 283 yards and two interceptions. He appeared in six games (four starts) as a true freshman in 2010 and connected on 82-of-153 passes for 1,240 yards with seven touchdowns and nine interceptions.

 

Smith, 5-11, 193 pounds, played in four games for the Colts this season and recovered a special teams fumble. He was placed on the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list on September 18, where he spent eight weeks before being activated on November 16. Smith was originally drafted by the Colts in the third round (65th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft. Collegiately, he played in 44 career games at Florida Atlantic and totaled 120 tackles (78 solo), nine interceptions, 29 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 1.0 sack.
