The Indianapolis Colts today waived defensive end Sterling Bailey, inside linebacker Trevor Bates, safety Alden Darby, cornerback Tay Glover-Wright, safety Lee Hightower, safety Stefan McClure, wide receiver MeKale McKay, cornerback Christopher Milton, guard Kitt O’Brien, outside linebacker Earl Okine, defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles, guard Adam Redmond, wide receiver Tevaun Smith, tackle Mitchell Van Dyk and tackle Jeremy Vujnovich.
The team also released inside linebacker Nate Irving and running back Stevan Ridley.
The Colts placed cornerback Tevin Mitchel, outside linebacker Ron Thompson and guard Hugh Thornton on the Injured Reserve list.
With the moves today, the Colts have reached the league-mandated 53-man roster.
Bailey, 6-3, 296 pounds, signed with Indianapolis as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2016. He participated in 42 career games (19 starts) at the University of Georgia and totaled 108 tackles (35 solo), 2.5 sacks and seven passes defensed.
Bates, 6-2, 247 pounds, was selected by the Colts in the seventh round (239th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. He appeared in 46 games at Maine and finished with 207 tackles (106 solo), 19.0 sacks, 10 passes defensed, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries (one returned for a touchdown) and three interceptions (one returned for a touchdown).
Darby, 5-10, 194 pounds, re-joined the Colts on August 30, 2016 after being waived on August 28, 2016. He originally signed with Indianapolis as a free agent on August 17, 2016. Darby spent most of the 2015 season on the New Orleans Saints practice squad. Collegiately, he played in 50 games (28 starts) at Arizona State and totaled 217 tackles (155 solo), 8.5 tackles for loss, 26 passes defensed, 10 interceptions, three forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
Glover-Wright, 6-0, 180 pounds, was signed to the Colts active roster from the team’s practice squad on December 17, 2015. He played in two games for Indianapolis last season. In 2014, Glover-Wright spent time on the Green Bay Packers practice squad.
Hightower, 6-2, 200 pounds, signed with Indianapolis as an undrafted free agent on August 2, 2016. He participated in the Houston Texans 2016 rookie minicamp on a tryout basis but was not signed. Hightower played in 20 games (seven starts) in two seasons (2014-15) at the University of Houston and finished with 65 tackles (40 solo), 0.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, five passes defensed and one forced fumble. Prior to transferring to Houston, he started 11-of-15 games at Boise State from 2011-12 and registered 56 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, one interception and five passes defensed.
McClure, 5-11, 205 pounds, signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2016. Collegiately, he appeared in 37 games (28 starts) at California and totaled 165 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, two interceptions, 12 passes defensed and three fumble recoveries (one returned for a touchdown).
McKay, 6-5, 210 pounds, signed with Indianapolis as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2016. Collegiately, he played in 38 games in three seasons (2013-15) at Cincinnati and finished with 87 receptions for 1,717 yards and 17 touchdowns. McKay began his collegiate career at Arkansas in 2012.
Milton, 5-11, 190 pounds, signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2016. He played in 53 games (33 starts) at Georgia Tech and collected 96 tackles (82 solo), 3.0 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, 14 passes defensed and five interceptions (two returned for touchdowns).
O’Brien, 6-5, 325 pounds, signed a reserve/future contract with Indianapolis on January 6, 2016. He spent three weeks on the Colts practice squad in 2015. O’Brien played two seasons (2013-14) in the Arena Football League (AFL) with the Cleveland Gladiators after his collegiate career at Ball State. In two seasons with Cleveland, he appeared in 23 games.
Okine, 6-6, 290 pounds, played in five games for Indianapolis in 2015 and compiled seven tackles. He also spent time on the Colts practice squad last season. Okine saw action with the Brooklyn Bolts of the Fall Experimental Football League (FXFL) in 2014. He also played for the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League (AFL) in 2014 and totaled 28 tackles (16 solo), 7.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three passes defensed and one fumble recovery in 16 games. Prior to joining the Predators, Okine spent time with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Quarles, 6-4, 310 pounds, was signed to the Colts active roster from the team’s practice squad on December 21, 2015. He has played in two career NFL games and recorded one tackle, 1.0 sack and one pass defensed. Quarles previously spent time on the practice squads of the New England Patriots (2014-15) and the Cleveland Browns (2015).
Redmond, 6-6, 290 pounds, signed with Indianapolis as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2016. He played in 31 games at Harvard and was the co-recipient of the school’s William Paine LaCroix Trophy in 2015.
Smith, 6-2, 205 pounds, signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2016. He totaled 102 catches for 1,500 yards (14.7 avg.) and seven touchdowns in 47 career games (24 starts) at Iowa.
Van Dyk, 6-7, 299 pounds, was signed by Indianapolis as a free agent on June 6, 2015. He spent the entire 2015 season on the Pittsburgh Steelers Injured Reserve list. Van Dyk was originally selected by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round (226th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. He participated in training camp with the Rams in 2014, but was waived prior to the start of the season.
Vujnovich, 6-5, 300 pounds, signed with the Colts as a free agent on May 12, 2016. He spent the last two seasons on the Green Bay Packers practice squad. Vujnovich originally signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent on January 7, 2014. Collegiately, he started 28-of-29 career games at Louisiana College from 2009-2012.
Irving, 6-1, 253 pounds, signed with Indianapolis as an unrestricted free agent on March 23, 2015. He has played in 62 career NFL games (14 starts) and totaled 99 tackles (62 solo), 3.0 sacks, four passes defensed and one forced fumble in his time with the Colts (2015) and the Denver Broncos (2011-14).
Ridley, 5-11, 220 pounds, was signed by the Colts as a free agent on August 28, 2016. He has played in 60 career NFL games (26 starts) and totaled 685 carries for 2,907 yards (4.2 avg.) and 22 touchdowns in his time with the New York Jets (2015) and the New England Patriots (2011-14). Ridley has also registered 27 receptions for 144 yards and seven kickoff returns for 152 yards.
Mitchel, 6-0, 190 pounds, was claimed by Indianapolis off waivers from the Washington Redskins on August 6, 2015. He spent the entire 2015 season on the Colts Injured Reserve list. Mitchel was originally selected by the Redskins in the sixth round (182nd overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Arkansas.
Thompson, 6-4, 268 pounds, signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2016. Collegiately, he saw action in 37 games (24 starts) in three seasons at Syracuse and totaled 87 tackles (58 solo), 12.0 sacks, 21.0 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
Thornton, 6-3, 320 pounds, was selected by Indianapolis in the third round (86th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played in 37 games (32 starts) and started two postseason contests for the Colts.
