The Indianapolis Colts today signed free agent cornerback Rashaan Melvin and waived quarterback Stephen Morris.
Melvin, 6-2, 193 pounds, has played in 12 career NFL games (two starts) and totaled 21 tackles (15 solo), one pass defensed, one forced fumble and two special teams stops in his time with the New England Patriots (2015) and Baltimore Ravens (2014-15). Melvin has also seen action in two postseason contests (two starts) and tallied 18 tackles (15 solo). He spent time with the Miami Dolphins during training camp before being waived during final cuts on September 3, 2016.
In 2015, Melvin saw action in nine games for the Patriots and Ravens and collected four tackles (two solo) and two special teams stops. He spent time on the Miami Dolphins practice squad in 2014 before being signed to Baltimore’s 53-man roster, where he appeared in three games (two starts) and recorded 17 tackles (13 solo), one pass defensed and one forced fumble. Melvin started two postseason contests for the Ravens and made 18 tackles (15 solo). He originally signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2013 out of Northern Illinois.
Morris, 6-2, 218 pounds, was signed to the Colts 53-man roster off of the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad on December 24, 2015. He spent most of the 2015 season on the Eagles practice squad. In 2014, Morris spent most of his rookie season on the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad before being elevated to the 53-man roster for the last two weeks of the season. He originally signed with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2014 out of Miami (FL).
