The Indianapolis Colts today released cornerback Charles James, long snapper Matt Overton and safety Duke Williams. The team also waived linebacker Alex Bazzie, punter Devon Bell, long snapper Joe Fortunato, inside linebacker Deon King, safety Stefan McClure, cornerback Larry Scott and wide receiver Devin Street.
James, 5-9, 185 pounds, signed with the Colts as a free agent on December 12, 2016. He has played in 34 career games (one start) and totaled 28 tackles (18 solo), two passes defensed and 15 special teams stops in his time with the Colts (2016), Houston Texans (2014-16) and New York Giants (2013).
Overton, 6-1, 243 pounds, signed with Indianapolis as a free agent on April 2, 2012. He appeared in 80 games over five seasons (2012-16) with the Colts and registered 26 special teams tackles. Overton also saw action in six postseason contests with Indianapolis and tallied two special teams tackles. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2013.
Williams, 5-11, 201 pounds, signed with Indianapolis as a free agent on December 12, 2016. He has seen action in 58 career games (10 starts) and totaled 77 tackles (60 solo), 1.0 sack, five passes defensed, one interception, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries and 14 special teams stops.
Bazzie, 6-2, 240 pounds, signed a reserve/future contract with the Colts on January 9, 2017. He spent the last three years (2014-16) with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League. Bazzie played in 50 games and totaled 83 tackles, 29.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and eight special teams stops.
Bell, 6-2, 190 pounds, signed a reserve/future contract with Indianapolis on January 6, 2017. He participated in the Detroit Lions 2016 offseason program and training camp before being waived on August 29. Collegiately, Bell appeared in 50 games at Mississippi State and served as a punter, placekicker and kickoff specialist.
Fortunato, 6-5, 240 pounds, signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent on March 23, 2017. He played in 46 career games as a four-year letterwinner (2012-15) at Delaware. Fortunato served as the team’s long snapper on punts all four years and was the long snapper on placements in his final two seasons. He finished with five special teams tackles.
King, 6-1, 230 pounds, was claimed by the Colts off waivers from the San Diego Chargers on November 15, 2016. Last season, he saw action in six games (two with San Diego and four with Indianapolis) and made one tackle. King also spent time on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad in 2016 after originally signing with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2016.
McClure, 5-11, 205 pounds, signed a reserve/future contract with Indianapolis on January 2, 2017. He spent the last four weeks of the 2016 season on the Colts practice squad. McClure participated in Indianapolis’ 2016 offseason program and training camp before being waived during final cuts on September 3. He originally signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2016. Collegiately, McClure appeared in 37 games (28 starts) at California and totaled 165 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, two interceptions, 12 passes defensed and three fumble recoveries (one returned for a touchdown).
Scott, 5-11, 194 pounds, signed a reserve/future contract with the Colts on January 2, 2017. He participated in the San Diego Chargers’ 2016 offseason program and training camp before being waived during final cuts on September 3. Scott originally signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2016. Collegiately, he played in 31 games at Oregon State and totaled 72 tackles (44 solo), 4.0 tackles for loss, one interception, one forced fumble and 15 passes defensed.
Street, 6-3, 200 pounds, spent time on the Colts active roster and practice squad last season. He has played in 36 career games (two starts) with Indianapolis (2016) and the Dallas Cowboys (2014-15). Street has caught 10 passes for 152 yards and one touchdown. He has also appeared in two postseason contests
