INDIANAPOLIS COLTS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

The Indianapolis Colts today signed safety Delano Howell from the Buffalo Bills practice squad to the Colts active roster and announced that guard Seth Olsen will return to practice. Olsen will remain on Injured Reserve during this time.

The Colts will have up to three weeks from today to elevate Olsen to the 53-man active roster or he will remain on Injured Reserve for the rest of the season.

Howell, 5-11, 201 pounds, has appeared in one game this season, making one tackle with the Buffalo Bills. He was originally signed by the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford on April 30, 2012. He was waived on October 13 and signed back to the active roster on October 15. Howell was then waived on November 9 and signed to the practice squad on November 12.

At Stanford, Howell started 33-of-43 games played and finished with 242 tackles (174 solo), seven interceptions and 19 passes defensed. As a senior in 2011, he was a First Team All-Pac-12 Conference selection after finishing with 52 tackles, four passes defensed, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.

Olsen, 6-5, 305 pounds, has played in 12 games (four starts) in his career. He started at left guard for the first three games this season before being placed on Injured Reserve on October 8, 2012. Olsen was originally acquired by the Colts from waivers on September 12, 2011.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

The Indianapolis Colts today signed defensive tackle Kellen Heard and placed nose tackle Josh Chapman and defensive tackle Fili Moala on Injured Reserve.

Heard, 6-6, 339 pounds, has played in 23 games (two starts) and has recorded 26 tackles (17 solo), two sacks and one forced fumble. This season, he has appeared in eight games with the St. Louis Rams, making five tackles (four solo). He was originally signed by the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2010 before being added to the practice squad on September 5. The Bills signed him to the active roster on December 11, 2010 and waived him on August 31, 2012. Heard was then acquired from waivers by the St. Louis Rams on September 1 and was waived on November 10.

Chapman, 6-0, 316 pounds, was originally selected by the Colts in the fifth round (136th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Alabama. He was placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List on August 27, 2012 and was activated on November 12. He was inactive for the last two games.

Moala, 6-4, 310 pounds, has played in 48 games (39 starts) since being drafted by the Colts in 2009. He holds career totals of 86 tackles (54 solo), two sacks and two passes defensed. This season, Moala started in all eight games he played in and recorded 21 tackles (11 solo) and one pass defensed. He was inactive for three games.

ROSTER MOVES

The Indianapolis Colts today signed tight end Dominique Jones to the active roster.

In four games (one start) this season, Jones has one reception for eight yards. He was originally signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2012 before being waived on October 8. He was signed to the practice squad on October 10 and released on October 16. Jones was then signed to the Miami Dolphins practice squad on October 23 and released on November 19.

ROSTER MOVES

The Indianapolis Colts today activated guard Justin Anderson from the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List, signed cornerback Marshay Green to the practice squad and waived tight end Kyle Miller.

Anderson, 6-5, 342 pounds, was originally selected by the Colts in the seventh round (208th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Georgia. He started 26-of-40 games for the Bulldogs and was named Freshman All-SEC by the league’s coaches and to Phil Steele’s All-Freshman second-team in 2008. He also earned recognition for Freshman Honorable Mention Team honors by CollegeFootballNews.com.

As a senior in 2011, Anderson started all 14 games, helping lead the school to a 10-4 record and berths in the SEC Championship Game and Outback Bowl.

Green, 5-10, 175 pounds, was originally signed to the Colts practice squad on October 1, 2012 and was elevated to the active roster on October 29. He appeared in one game this season against Jacksonville (11/8) and made three solo tackles. He was waived on November 16.

Miller, 6-5, 260 pounds, appeared in the team’s last contest at New England (11/18). He joined the Colts as a free agent on April 3, 2012 and was waived on August 31. He was then signed to the practice squad a day later and elevated to the active roster on November 12. Miller was originally signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Mount Union on July 26, 2011 before being waived on September 3.

The Indianapolis Colts today elevated cornerback Teddy Williams from the practice squad to the active roster and waived cornerback Marshay Green.

Williams, 6-1, 201 pounds, was signed to the Colts practice squad on October 30, 2012. He was originally signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Texas-San Antonio on July 29, 2010. He was waived on September 4 before being signed to the practice squad a day later. Williams switched positions to wide receiver midway through the season and was elevated to the active roster on December 21, 2010. He was inactive for the final two games. Williams then spent the entire 2011 season on the Cowboys practice squad before being waived on August 31, 2012.

At UTSA, Williams did not play college football, but was a standout on the track and field team. He was the school’s only four-time All-America selection and helped lead the Roadrunners to six Southland Conference Championships (four indoor/two outdoor) from 2007-10. Williams claimed nine Southland titles (five indoor/four outdoor), was twice named the league’s Indoor Athlete of the Year (2009-10) as well as Outdoor Outstanding Track Performer (2009-10). He also established UTSA records in the 55m (6.23 seconds), 60m (Southland-best 6.59), 100m (9.90), 200m (20.60) and 400m relay (39.59).

Williams’ 9.90-second 100-meter time was the fastest in the world during his junior season.

Green, 5-10, 175 pounds, was originally signed to the Colts practice squad on October 1, 2012 and was elevated to the active roster on October 29. He appeared in one game this season, making three solo tackles.

COLTS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

The Indianapolis Colts today elevated center A.Q. Shipley to the active roster and signed cornerback Marshay Green to the practice squad. The Colts waived outside linebacker Mario Addison from the active roster and released cornerback D.J. Johnson from the practice squad.

Shipley, 6-1, 309 pounds, was originally signed by the Colts on January 28, 2012. He was waived on September 10 and signed to the practice squad on September 11. Shipley saw action on the offensive line in Week 1 at Chicago.

Green, 5-10, 175 pounds, originally signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent on April 26, 2010. He was waived by the Cardinals on September 5 before being added to the practice squad two days later. Green was elevated to the 53-man active roster on November 23 and was active for the final six games of the 2010 season.

Green was waived by the Cardinals on September 2, 2011 and was signed to the practice squad on September 5. He was then elevated to the active roster on December 31 and appeared in the final game of the season, making one solo tackle in the game. Green was waived by the Cardinals on August 24, 2012.

Addison, 6-3, 257 pounds, was acquired from waivers by the Colts on November 23, 2011. For his career, he has appeared in nine games, making five tackles.

Johnson, 6-1, 191 pounds, was acquired by the Colts in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for defensive tackle Ollie Ogbu on July 22, 2012. He was waived by the Colts on September 1 before being signed to the practice squad on September 2. For his career, Johnson has appeared in 10 games, making three tackles with the New York Giants.

ROSTER MOVES

The Indianapolis Colts today signed cornerback Darius Butler and released guard Trai Essex.

Butler, 5-10, 185 pounds, has appeared in 42 career games (14 starts) and has registered 89 tackles (81 solo), 21 passes defensed, three interceptions and one forced fumble. He was originally selected by the New England Patriots in the second round (41st overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. With the Patriots, Butler played in a total of 29 games, making eight starts. He recorded 58 tackles (55 solo), 14 passes defensed, three interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown and one fumble recovery. He was waived by the Patriots on September 7, 2011 and claimed by the Carolina Panthers a day later.

With the Panthers last year, Butler tallied 31 tackles (26 solo) and seven passes defensed in 13 games played (six starts). He was waived by the Panthers prior to the start of the regular season on August 31, 2012.

Butler played four years at the University of Connecticut, starting all 45 games he played in. For his college career, he totaled 180 tackles, 26 passes defensed, 10 interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns, and three forced fumbles.

Essex appeared in two games with the Colts this season. Over his eight-year career, he has competed in 78 games, making 28 starts.

COLTS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

The Indianapolis Colts today signed wide receiver Nathan Palmer off the San Francisco 49ers practice squad. The Colts placed wide receiver Austin Collie on Injured Reserve.

Palmer, 5-11, 195 pounds, signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 4, 2012. He was waived on August 31 before being signed to the 49ers practice squad a day later. Palmer played in 48 games (20 starts) at Northern Illinois, totaling 93 receptions for 1,575 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also rushed for 200 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries.

Palmer attended Elkhart (Ind.) Central High School and was a first-team all-state and all-conference selection.

Collie played in one game this season, making one catch for six yards. For his career, Collie has appeared in 42 games (16 starts), totaling 173 receptions for 1,845 yards and 16 touchdowns.
