There wasn’t a bigger smile going around the Colts locker room on Wednesday afternoon than that of tight end Dominique Jones.
Back in his normal locker spot, Jones was signed to the Colts active roster on Wednesday morning.
Jones played the first four games of the season for the Colts before injuries forced Indianapolis to juggle their roster.
On Monday, the Miami Dolphins released Jones after he spent a month on their practice squad.
Now, he is back with the team that gave him an opportunity as an undrafted free agent out of Shepherd University.
“It’s real crazy just not having a job, to having a job,” Jones said. “These last five weeks have just been crazy going back and forth, getting a taste of this league.”
“You never know what’s going to happen. You can never get comfortable in this league. You have to take it day-by-day and just be happy that you have a job so that’s how I’m taking it.”
It was a whirlwind 24 hours for Jones beginning with a phone call from a familiar area code last night.
“I was picking up my girlfriend from the (Miami) airport to celebrate Thanksgiving and they give me a call saying that they are going to bring be back,” Jones said.
No. 46 was back at practice on Wednesday re-joining the tight end position that is filled with fellow rookies.
In the Colts season opener against the Bears, it was Jones catching an eight-yard pass from quarterback Andrew Luck for the first catch of his career.
Jones is experiencing first hand what life in the NFL is like but the smile on his face explained just how grateful he is to be back in Indianapolis.
“I’m excited to be back. It’s a great place. I’ve spent a lot of time here so I’m comfortable with the place and it’s just a good thing.”
