2013 OFFSEASON OUTLOOK: JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
Posted by on April 12, 2013 – 9:50 amBetween now and the beginning of the NFL Draft (April 25), Colts.com will take an offseason look at each of the Colts 2013 opponents. The third installment comes today with the Jacksonville Jaguars:
Jacksonville Jaguars 2013 Offseason:
2012 Season: 2-14 regular season. Finished 4th in the AFC South.
Key Offseason Additions: RB-Justin Forsett, LB-Geno Hayes, DT-Sen’Derrick Marks, WR-Mohamed Massaquoi, DT-Roy Miller
Key Offseason Losses: OT-Eben Britton, CB-Derek Cox (Chargers), FB-Greg Jones (Texans), DT-Terrance Knighton (Broncos), S-Dawan Landry (Jets), CB-Rashean Mathis, WR-Laurent Robinson, CB-Aaron Ross (Giants), LB-Daryl Smith
2013 Draft Picks: 1-2, 2-33, 3-64, 4-98, 5-135, 6-169, 7-208
Analysis: A 2-14 regular season for the Jaguars brought an overhaul within the organization. Owner Shad Kahn hired David Caldwell, who spent 10 years (1998-2007) in the Colts personnel department, as his general manager. The two in turn hired former Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley as head coach.
Caldwell has made a significant roster repair and has opened up some nice cap space for a team that will draft in the top two of every round in a few weeks. Some veteran Jaguars have moved on and the pieces coming into Jacksonville don’t equate to what is leaving down. Forsett is a nice change of pace back compared to All-Pro starting running back Maurice Jones-Drew. The Jaguars added potential starters in the defensive front seven and brought in former Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi.
The 2013 draft will be vital for the future of the Jaguars organization. Jacksonville doesn’t have to look far to see what a successful draft can do for a franchise (the Colts in 2012). Many mock drafts have the Jaguars thinking pass rusher at No. 2 (Dion Jordon or Ezekiel Anzah). Both players would fit right into Bradley’s new defensive scheme but virtually every pick will be critical for the Jaguars future.
