Between now and the beginning of the NFL Draft (April 25), Colts.com will take an offseason look at each of the Colts 2013 opponents. The sixth installment comes today with the St. Louis Rams:
St. Louis Rams 2013 Offseason:
2012 Season: 7-8-1 regular season. Finished 3rd in the NFC West.
Key Offseason Additions: TE-Jared Cook, OT-Jake Long
Key Offseason Losses: WR-Danny Amendola (Patriots), RB-Steven Jackson, S-Quintin Mikell, WR-Steve Smith (Buccaneers)
2013 Draft Picks: 1-16, 1-22, 2-46, 3-78, 4-113, 5-149, 6-184, 7-222
Analysis: Jeff Fisher’s first season as Rams head coach was full of ups and downs. The Rams started off 3-2, dropped four of their next five contests (with one tie) and then closed out the campaign winning five of seven.
From a quantity standpoint, the Rams did not make a ton of noise in free agency but they did add two headliners. Former Titans tight end Jared Cook is very familiar to Colts fans and he will provide St. Louis quarterback Sam Bradford a reliable target down the middle of the field. Jake Long will be a mainstay protecting the blindside of Bradford.
St. Louis will have to replace its top running back and receiver. After having four picks in the first two rounds of last year’s draft, the Rams once again are frontloaded with picks on the first two days of next week’s draft. The Rams have first round picks at 16 and 22 and numerous mock drafts have St. Louis going receiver and safety with those selections.
