2013 OFFSEASON OUTLOOK: SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
Posted by on April 25, 2013 – 7:30 amBetween now and the beginning of the NFL Draft (April 25), Colts.com will take an offseason look at each of the Colts 2013 opponents. The 12th installment comes today with the San Francisco 49ers:
San Francisco 49ers 2013 Offseason:
2012 Season: 11-4-1 regular season. Finished 1st in the NFC West
Key Offseason Additions: CB-Nnamdi Asomugha, WR-Anquan Boldin, DT-Glenn Dorsey
Key Offseason Losses: DT-Ricky Jean-Francois (Colts), S-Dashon Goodson (Buccaneers), WR-Ted Ginn Jr. (Panthers), DT-Issac Sopoaga, QB-Alex Smith (Chiefs), TE-Delanie Walker (Titans)
2013 Draft Picks: 1-31, 2-34, 2-61, 3-74, 3-93, 4-128, 4-131, 5-157, 5-164, 6-180, 6-199, 7-227, 7-237, 7-246, 7-252
Analysis: The 49ers were a play away from the ultimate goal last season but perhaps no team around the league heads into the NFL Draft with more promise for the upcoming season. This is Colin Kapernick’s team at the quarterback position and the only question remains to be seen if he can hold up over the course of a 16-game schedule.
If you can’t beat them, then add them? Well, for the 49ers that’s exactly the case. Boldin gives Kapernick one of the game’s most reliable and consistent receiving targets. Asomugha gives the 49ers defense a lockdown cornerback that will compliment one of the league’s finest front seven’s.
San Francisco lost some key contributors on both sides of the football during the offseason but they have an astonishing 15 picks in this week’s draft. One would think the 49ers will be very active over the next three days moving around the draft to acquire the talent needed to return to the Super Bowl.
