Eye on the Prize: Week Four AFC South Standings

Posted by Kevin Bowen on October 2, 2013 – 9:00 am

Each week will take a look at the rest of the AFC South and review the previous weekend’s games.

Here is a look after Week Four:

Seahawks 23, Texans 20, OT

-After the Texans survived late game heroics the first two weeks of the season, Houston could not hold a 17-point third quarter lead on Sunday afternoon. Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson kept numerous plays alive and a Matt Schaub pick six late in the fourth quarter sent the game into overtime. Schaub did throw for 355 yards and two touchdowns but a pair of interceptions to Seattle’s premier cornerback duo proved to be costly. Pro Bowlers Arian Foster (102 rushing yards) and Andre Johnson (110 receiving yards) led the Texans offensive attack. Houston did have five sacks of Wilson and forced a pair of turnovers (Wilson INT and a Marshawn Lynch fumble.

NEXT GAME: @ San Francisco, Sunday at 8:30 p.m. EST

Titans 38, Jets 13

-The Titans continued their impressive start to the season with a convincing win on both sides of the football. However, the health of quarterback Jake Locker is the real storyline following the win. Locker injured his hip during the second half of Sunday’s win and early timetables have him missing right a month, if not more. The injury is significant considering the Titans are the only team in the NFL who has yet to commit a turnover in 2013.

NEXT GAME: vs. Kansas City, Sunday at 1:00 p.m. EST

Colts 37, Jaguars 3

-The Jaguars jumped out to a 3-0 first quarter lead but the rest of the game went downhill for the home team. Pro Bowl running back Maurice Jones-Drew was held to a mere 23 yards on 13 carries. Quarterback Blaine Gabbert was sacked four times and intercepted three times. Good news for the Jaguars comes with wide receiver Justin Blackmon returning from suspension next week and Jacksonville can pair the 2012 first round pick with Cecil Shorts (seven catches for 61 yards on Sunday).

NEXT GAME: @St. Louis, Sunday at 1:00 p.m. EST.

2013 AFC South Standings
