Colts Announce Second Annual 5K Run to Kick Off 2014 Season

5K Run, strengthened by Indiana University Health, Give Fans Opportunity to Finish on 50 Yard Line

Indianapolis, IN – Today, the Indianapolis Colts announced their 2nd Annual Colts 5K Run, strengthened by Indiana University Health, to kick off the 2014 season. Registration for the race, which will be held the morning of Saturday, August 23 at Lucas Oil Stadium, opens today at A Kids’ PLAY 60 Fun Run will also be held that morning at the stadium.

Early registration pricing is available through June 30, including $35 for the 5K and $15 for the Kids’ Fun Run. A portion of the race proceeds will benefit the IU Health Simon Cancer Center to support the Patience Assistance program, which helps offset some of the financial burden for cancer patients.

This is the second year the Colts have hosted a 5K Run at Lucas Oil Stadium. The 2013 event brought nearly 1,800 runners and walkers to the stadium. The event was created to allow fans to share in the glory of the gridiron while supporting a healthy and active lifestyle by completing a 5K run/walk.

“The return of football season in Indiana brings a special feeling of excitement and anticipation, and this is a wonderful event for fans to come together and celebrate their team in a positive and healthy way,” said Stephanie Pemberton, Indianapolis Colts Sr. Director of Marketing. “We’re excited to be teaming up with Indiana University Health to bring this event back for the second year as we encourage Hoosiers everywhere to live active, healthy lives.”

This year’s race takes place prior to the Colts’ third preseason game against the New Orleans Saints, set for 8:00pm at Lucas Oil Stadium. The game will be nationally televised. Runners who register for the 5K have the opportunity to purchase tickets to the game for $61, ahead of sales to the general public.
