Colts Day at Vincennes University

The sun was shining, the temperature was perfect and the Colts were ready to kick off the Summer Tour in Vincennes, Indiana. We packed up our trailer with plenty of exciting elements for our first stop on the tour and headed to Vincennes University on Thursday, June 5th. When we first arrived to set up, we found some dedicated fans already waiting to join in the fun and meet Darius Butler and Vick Ballard.

Those fans who got there early also were able to see Butler and Ballard’s helicopter arrival. It was both players’ first time riding in a helicopter, and they said it was a lot of fun. Both also enjoyed being able to give back to fans at the Summer Tour events.

“It’s fun to see your fans and talk to them a bit on social media, but it’s so much better getting to interact with them face-to-face,” Butler said.

By the time our players, cheerleaders and our wonderful mascot Blue had all arrived, the line of fans stretched far down the parking lot. I was able to get to meet some of the fans in Vincennes while they waited.

Sarah, along with her children McKenzie, Hunter, and Spencer, stopped by Colts Day. Sarah told us that the family makes their way to a Summer Tour event each year and also loves going to training camp in Anderson. “We love these events because to us, this is like the start of the season,” Sarah said. We couldn’t agree more!

While some fans waited to get autographs, Nathan, age 9, and Ariel, age 6, spent their time enjoying our Quarterback Challenge inflatable. As the siblings took turns tossing the football, Nathan told me Andrew Luck is his favorite player. I think it’s safe to say Luck would have been proud of Nathan and Ariel’s skills as they both made some amazing throws!

I also asked Ballard who would win if he and Butler took a turn at the Quarterback Challenge. “Oh, I’d win for sure,” Ballard said. I have a feeling Butler would say differently. Maybe the two will take a shot at it sometime!

Besides getting autographs and playing with our inflatables, fans also registered to win Colts tickets, explored Colts In Motion, and grabbed 2014 season schedule posters. “This way we will never miss a game!” Ashley, age 5, told me with a big smile after getting a poster for her family.

Fans Christina, Aaron, and Matthew had a fun evening enjoying all that Colts Day had to offer. I talked to the family right after they had met the players and cheerleaders. Matthew, age 8, told me he had tried recreating Ballard’s famous game winning touchdown two seasons ago while in his family’s living room. “It didn’t go so well though,” Christina said. “Matthew ended up breaking his arm!”  Although we never like to hear about injuries, I think Matthew’s enthusiasm for the Colts is pretty cool, and we’re glad he’s ok now.

As the evening began to wind down, the helicopter came back to take the players home. We took down the inflatables, closed down Colts In Motion and loaded up the trailer. We had a great night at Vincennes University with more than 500 fans in attendance! I loved being able to meet some of the best fans in the NFL throughout this fun night.

Will we have another great turnout at our Fan Fest in Greensburg, featuring players Dwayne Allen and Jerrell Freeman?  My guess is yes, but we’ll have to wait and see what this Thursday night holds! Thanks for an awesome start to our Summer Tour, Vincennes!
