The Indianapolis Colts today agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent safety Dwight Lowery.
Lowery, 5-11, 212 pounds, has totaled 302 tackles (216 solo), 12 interceptions, 4.0 sacks, seven forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries and 50 passes defensed in 84 career games (56 starts) with the New York Jets (2008-2010), Jacksonville Jaguars (2011-13) and Atlanta Falcons (2014). He has participated in six career postseason contests, recording 15 tackles and three passes defensed. Lowery was originally selected by the Jets in the fourth round (113th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft. In three seasons in New York, he totaled seven interceptions and 32 passes defensed.
In 2014 with the Falcons, Lowery started 15-of-16 contests and established career highs in tackles (85) and solo stops (62) while contributing with two interceptions, five passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. In 2010, he returned two interceptions for touchdowns marking his first career scores.
Collegiately, Lowery started 25 games at San Jose State after transferring from Cabrillo College. In two seasons with the Spartans, he totaled 92 tackles (53 solo), 13 interceptions, 14 passes defensed and three fumble recoveries. Lowery also tallied 147 interception return yards and one interception return for a touchdown. As a senior, he earned First Team American Football Coaches Association All-America honors and First Team All-Western Athletic Conference accolades.
