The Indianapolis Colts today claimed safety Matthias Farley and cornerback Neiko Thorpe off waivers.
The team also released cornerback Jalil Brown and tight end Chase Coffman.
Farley, 5-11, 210 pounds, originally signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2016. He participated in the Cardinals offseason program and training camp before being waived during final cuts on September 3.
Collegiately, Farley played in 52 games (26 starts) at Notre Dame and finished with 192 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, eight interceptions, 13 passes defensed and one forced fumble. In 2015, he appeared in all 13 games (three starts) and compiled 41 tackles, one interception, two passes defensed and one forced fumble. Farley played in 13 games (four starts) in 2014 and set career highs with 53 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, four interceptions and five passes defensed. He tied for the team lead in interceptions and ranked second in sacks. In 2013, Farley saw action in 13 games (eight starts) and registered 49 tackles, two interceptions and five passes defensed. After beginning his collegiate career as a wide receiver, he moved to safety in 2012 and started a career-high 11-of-13 games for the Irish and made 49 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss and one interception. Farley helped Notre Dame finish the regular season with a 12-0 record and earn an appearance in the BCS National Championship Game. He redshirted as a freshman in 2011.
Thorpe, 6-1, 200 pounds, has played in 37 career NFL games (two starts) and totaled 42 tackles (38 solo), one interception, seven passes defensed and 10 special teams stops in his time with the Oakland Raiders (2014-15) and Kansas City Chiefs (2012). He participated in the Raiders offseason program and training camp before being waived during final cuts on September 3.
In 2015, Thorpe saw action in 14 games (two starts) and compiled 36 tackles (33 solo), one interception, six passes defensed and four special teams stops. He appeared in 14 games in 2014 and made two tackles (one solo), one pass defensed and six special teams stops. As a rookie in 2012, Thorpe played in nine games and collected four solo tackles. He also spent time on the Chiefs practice squad as a rookie. Thorpe originally signed with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2012 after his collegiate career at Auburn.
Brown, 6-1, 210 pounds, was signed by the Colts as a free agent on December 8, 2015. He has played in 47 career NFL games (six starts) and recorded 47 tackles (44 solo), six passes defensed, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and 17 special teams stops in his time with Indianapolis (2013-15) and the Kansas City Chiefs (2011-12). Brown has also played in one postseason contest.
Coffman, 6-6, 250 pounds, signed with the Colts as a free agent on July 26, 2016. He has played in 37 career NFL games (three starts) and caught 18 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns in his time with the Seattle Seahawks (2015), Tennessee Titans (2014-15), Atlanta Falcons (2012-13) and Cincinnati Bengals (2009-2011). Coffman has appeared in three postseason contests and collected one reception for 16 yards.
