The NFL today announced that Indianapolis Colts running back Jordan Todman has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 9. This marks the first time he has earned the award in his career.

In Week 9 at Green Bay, Todman totaled two kickoff returns for 160 yards (80.0 avg.) and one touchdown against the Packers. He returned the game’s opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. It was the team’s first kickoff return for a touchdown since Dec. 30, 2012 against Houston (Deji Karim, 101 yards). It was also the first kickoff return for a touchdown on the opening kickoff of the game for the Colts dating back to Dec. 10, 1995 at Jacksonville (Aaron Bailey, 95 yards).

At the start of the second quarter, Todman registered a 61-yard kickoff return. His 80.0 kickoff return average set a Colts single-game record with a minimum of two returns. Todman surpassed Aaron Bailey who had the previous record with a 66.0 average set on Dec. 10, 1995.

Todman is the second Colts player to earn AFC Player of the Week honors this season. Kicker Adam Vinatieri was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 5 as well as AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for October.
