The Indianapolis Colts today signed free agent cornerback Charles James.
James, 5-9, 185 pounds, was waived by the Houston Texans on December 5. He has seen action in 33 career NFL games (one start) and totaled 26 tackles (17 solo), two passes defensed and 15 special teams stops in his time with Houston (2014-16) and the New York Giants (2013).
James played in 12 games for the Texans this season and tallied 12 tackles (10 solo), one pass defensed and six special teams stops. In 2015, he appeared in nine games (one start) and collected 14 tackles (seven solo), one pass defensed and five special teams stops. James spent the first five weeks of the 2015 season on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad before being released on October 17, 2015 and claimed by the Texans off waivers two days later. He spent most of the 2014 season on Houston’s practice squad. In 2013, James spent time on the Giants active roster and practice squad. He participated in 12 games and made four special teams stops. James was originally signed by the Giants as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2013 out of Charleston Southern.

The Indianapolis Colts today signed free agent safety Duke Williams and elevated wide receiver Devin Street to the 53-man roster from the practice squad.
The team also placed safety Clayton Geathers, outside linebacker Curt Maggitt and guard Jack Mewhort on the Injured Reserve list.
Williams, 5-11, 201 pounds, was waived by the Buffalo Bills on November 15, 2016. He has played in 57 career NFL games (10 starts) and totaled 77 tackles (60 solo), 1.0 sack, one interception, five passes defensed, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries. Williams was originally selected by the Bills in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.
Williams saw action in nine games (two starts) for Buffalo this season and compiled four tackles and one pass defensed. In 2015, he participated in all 16 games (four starts) and made 23 tackles (20 solo), one pass defensed and one fumble recovery. Williams played in all 16 games (four starts) in 2014 and collected a career-high 45 tackles (34 solo), one interception, three passes defensed, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. As a rookie in 2013, he appeared in all 16 games and tallied three tackles (two solo).
Street, 6-3, 200 pounds, played in three games for the Colts this season and caught one pass for 20 yards before being waived on November 23 and signed to the practice squad the next day. He was signed to Indianapolis’ 53-man roster off of the New England Patriots practice squad on September 21, 2016. Street spent the first two weeks of this season on the Patriots practice squad. He has seen action in 34 career NFL games (two starts) and totaled 10 receptions for 152 yards and one touchdown in his time with Indianapolis (2016) and the Dallas Cowboys (2014-15). Street was originally selected by the Cowboys in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Pittsburgh.
Geathers, 6-2, 220 pounds, started all nine games he played in for the Colts this season and totaled 60 tackles (54 solo), five passes defensed, one forced fumble and two special teams stops. He has seen action in 24 career NFL games (11 starts) and registered 91 tackles (77 solo), six passes defensed, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and 10 special teams stops. Geathers was originally selected by Indianapolis in the fourth round (109th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Central Florida.
Maggitt, 6-3, 250 pounds, played in nine games for Indianapolis this season and registered four tackles (two solo) and four special teams stops. He was originally signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 4, 2016 out of Tennessee.
Mewhort, 6-6, 312 pounds, started all 10 games he participated in this season. He has started all 40 games he has played in his career along the offensive line since being selected by the Colts in the second round (59th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Ohio State.
