The NFL today announced that Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton and punter Pat McAfee have been named to the 2017 Pro Bowl. The game will be played on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla.
In 2016, Hilton has started all 14 games and totaled 81 receptions for 1,248 yards (15.4 avg.) and six touchdowns. He ranks in the top 10 in the NFL in receptions (ninth), receiving yards (second), first down receptions (56, third), 25+ yard receptions (13, tied-first) and yards at catch (964, second). This is the fourth consecutive season that Hilton has led the team in receptions and receiving yards. He registered his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season and joined Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne as the only players in franchise history to post four or more career 1,000-yard receiving seasons. Hilton has tallied five 100-yard receiving games this season, which is tied for the second most in his career (five in 2012 and 13).
In Week 3 vs. San Diego (9/25), Hilton caught eight passes for 174 yards (21.8 avg.) and one touchdown with a long touchdown reception of 63 yards. His 174 receiving yards marked his second-highest total for a single game. In Week 5 vs. Chicago (10/9), Hilton caught 10 passes for 171 yards and one touchdown. His 171 receiving yards marked his 20th career 100-yard contest and it was his third highest receiving yardage total in a single-game for his career (223 at Houston on 10/9/14 and 174 vs. San Diego on 9/25/16). Hilton’s 10 receptions tied for the second most in a single-game in his career (11 vs. Jacksonville on 12/29/13 and 10 at Cleveland on 12/7/14) and it was the third time in his career he posted double-digit catches. In Week 7 at Tennessee (10/23), he led the team with 133 receiving yards on seven catches, while adding a 37-yard touchdown. In Week 13 at New York Jets (12/5), Hilton caught nine passes for 146 yards. With 146 yards, he passed Marvin Harrison (21) for the most 100-yard receiving games by a Colts player in the first five seasons of their career. In Week 14 vs. Houston (12/11), Hilton caught nine passes for 115 yards and one touchdown. With 115 receiving yards, he tied Raymond Berry (23) for the third-most 100-yard games in Colts history.
McAfee has recorded 49 punts for 2,408 yards (49.1 avg./42.8 net) and 17 punts inside the 20-yard line. He leads the NFL in punting average and ranks third in net punting average. In Week 2 at Denver (9/18), McAfee posted four punts for a 56.5 average with a long kick of 72 yards. He also added five kickoff touchbacks. McAfee recorded a new career-long punt with his 72-yard kick in the first quarter. The punt topped his previous long of 66 yards, which he originally set on Oct. 3, 2010 at Jacksonville. In Week 5 vs. Chicago (10/9), McAfee logged three kicks for a 63.3 average (56.7 net) and two punts pinned inside the 20-yard line. In addition, he added five kickoff touchbacks. McAfee’s 63.3 gross punting average
and 56.7 net punting average were both single-game career highs. His 63.3 gross average is a new team record (minimum of three kicks). McAfee logged a 74-yard punt in the fourth quarter, which was the longest of his career and the second longest in team history (David Lee, 76 at the New York Giants on 10/17/71).
This is Hilton’s third consecutive Pro Bowl selection (2014-16) and the second for McAfee (2014, 2016). The Colts have had at least two players represented in the Pro Bowl dating back to 1999.
