As part of a promotion on our Indianapolis Colts Cheerleading Facebook page, we’re featuring a different candidate selected by you the fans!

Our first one is Makinzee L and below is a little bit about her!  Makinzee L.

Guilty Pleasure: Shopping

Hidden Talent: Proficient Video Gamer

Career Goal: Focus on health & wellness and becoming a certified trainer!

Dance Resume: Started dancing at age of 3. Grew up on competitive dance teams. Was an extra in Disney’s High School Musical. Past 5 years have been on tour with the Donny and Marie Show.

Why the Colts?: I am a dancer by trade and just ended my contract with the Donny and Marie show in Las Vegas. I remember last year attending my first ever NFL football game.  I sat and watched Andrew Luck throw his first pass at home as an Indianapolis Colts quarterback, it was an exciting win for Indianapolis and the players.  As I sat there, I watched the cheerleaders cheer, and thought to myself I want to be out there helping the fans cheer on the Indianapolis Colts. The one thing that helped me in not re-signing my contract and making the 19 hour drive to Indiana from Las Vegas, was seeing the camaraderie of the Colts Cheerleaders.  I am fascinated by the charity events they participate in, to even seeing two of the cheerleaders shaving their heads for Coach Pagano and cancer research.  Being part of this organization, representing the NFL, the Indianapolis Colts, and our community would be an honor and just as rewarding as dancing in any show on the Las Vegas strip!

Natalie’s Notes #2- Audition Attire

Posted by coltscheer on February 3, 2013 – 11:08 pm

Hey, it’s Natalie and I’m back again for another round of my notes!

We’ve received a few questions about the kinds of tops to wear for auditions, so I thought I would go ahead and address the type of outfit to wear. As you can see on the website, every girl must show their stomach and legs throughout auditions. That being said, this is where girls really like to get creative and express their personality! Here are some tips on picking the BEST audition outfit for you.
Some girls will wear swimsuit tops, sports bras or dance tops. One main question to ask yourself when choosing a top is, “Can I dance in this?” Dancing is the main part of our auditions. We will learn approximately 4 routines, so you want to be able to move comfortably without any kind of wardrobe malfunction. Also ask, “Is this top flattering on me?” Everyone’s body is different, so every top isn’t going to look the same on every girl. Just because something looks great on a hanger or in a picture doesn’t necessarily mean it will look great on you. Choose something that will showcase your body the best! And most importantly, ask yourself, “Am I comfortable in this top?” The auditions alone are nerve racking enough, you don’t want to add being self conscious about your top into the mix. So, going off of what I said before, it may look great but if you are uncomfortable in it for any reason, then it’s not the top for you.
Now for your bottoms, most girls will wear shorts, though some choose to wear skirts. Either one works great. When choosing your shorts here are a few things to keep in mind. The fit is a big thing, you want to make sure they are form fitting so they show off your figure. That being said, you don’t want them to be too tight or too small, so make sure all private parts are completely covered ladies. Also make sure the length is proportionate to your body. For example, if you have shorter legs wearing long biker shorts is probably not the best choice for you.
Another important aspect of your audition outfit is tights! Yes, it is highly recommended for every girl to wear tights throughout auditions. Tights just give your legs a smoother and more polished look and what girl doesn’t want that? When choosing tights, make sure they match your skin tone! Wearing tights that are three shades too light or dark for you never looks good. It’s just like finding the right foundation. Tights can be found almost anywhere, ranging from your nearest Walmart to Hooters restaurants. But again, size and color are the most important things to remember when choosing them.
Now, once you’ve chosen your outfit, be sure to try it on before the first day of auditions. This will give you the chance to see what kind of bra you need to wear, make sure everything fits and that you won’t have any malfunctions on audition day. Check out to see pictures from last years auditions to get a more visual idea. My last bit of advice is that a little sparkle can go a long way. So whether it be sequins or rhinestones, adding a little to your outfit will only make it and you more noticeable! I hope this makes you aspiring cheerleaders feel more prepared for auditions.

Natalie’s Notes #1- The BIGGEST game of the year!

Posted by coltscheer on February 1, 2013 – 6:25 pm

Hey it’s Natalie. Thanks for stopping in to check out my blog. I’ve just recently finished up my 5th year as an Indianapolis Colts Cheerleader. I will be using this blog to answer any questions you may have about auditions, games or life as an NFL Cheerleader! One of the greatest experiences I’ve had as a ‘Sweetheart of the Horseshoe’ was being a part of a Super Bowl, and I’ve actually experienced two! With the big game being this weekend I thought I would share a little insight on my experience of this crazy and exciting week!
My first Super Bowl experience was in 2009 at Super Bowl XLIV, which took place in Miami against the New Orleans Saints. This was my second year on the squad, so having our whole team travel to Miami was a great privilege. We spent the whole week leading up to the big game in Miami, a week full of once in a lifetime appearances and unforgettable events. The hotels, streets and beach were decked out in Super Bowl decor. The best part about that? Half of it was COLTS decor! Even though Super Bowl XLIV did not work out in our favor, it was awesome to see all our fans come together to cheer on and support our ‘Boys in Blue’.
My second Super Bowl experience was last season when Indianapolis hosted Super Bowl XLVI. Even though our Colts were not fortunate enough to make it to the big game, we as cheerleaders still had a fun and crazy work load. During the week leading up to the Super Bowl, each day was full of multiple appearances, ranging from autograph signings to show performances. Each day’s performance had a different theme, such as “Breast Cancer Awareness” and “Old School” performances. A group of girls were lucky enough to appear on the Jimmy Fallon show right here in Indy! My favorite memories from last year’s Super Bowl was my Game Day appearance, where about 16 of us performed inside the stadium on game day. For the performance we were in a convention room transformed into a winter wonderland. The room was completely covered in white, with fake snow and even an ice rink. We danced on stage in the middle of the room 3 separate times, signing autographs between performances. It was exciting to see fans coming from all over the world, especially our hometown supporters of our Boys in Blue. Each Super Bowl provided unforgettable memories. It was a great honor to play a unique roles in each event.
